Online Tutorials for Online Faculty
Contact Instructional Development (idev@academyart.edu) for access to the following training classes:
Online Course Development
The training is intended to help instructors understand the process of developing an online class. This endeavor is a team effort in which the Instructor is the content expert, the Content Manager is the writing/editing expert, and the Instructional Designer is the technical expert. In this training course, you will learn strategies for adapting classroom practices to the online environment, writing "lectures" for your course modules, selecting images, and creating videos and other media. You will also get tips for working with your course development team, as well as suggestions and resources to help with all aspects of the development process. This training is required for anyone building an online course for the first time.
Online Teaching
Many instructors find that there is a fairly steep learning curve at the start of their first term of online teaching, so this three-hour training class is designed to help you understand the process of teaching online at the Academy. You will learn the basics of navigating your online class, working with the reporting and grading tools, and dealing with attendance and technical issues. More importantly, you'll learn about what is expected of you as an online instructor, and you’ll receive tips and strategies for managing your Class Discussion effectively. You will also receive a set of handouts and “cheat sheets” to help you with the basics of working with your online class. This training is required for anyone teaching an online class for the first time.

Onsite Teaching Seminars for Online Faculty
Teaching seminars and workshops designed specifically for online faculty are held during the biannual Academy Teaching Conference and midterm workshops. Session titles will tell you which sessions are specific to the online environment. Information and schedules can be found on the Teaching Seminars page.
Online Faculty Coaching
Every new online teacher at the Academy is paired with an experienced online instructor who will serve as a teaching coach. Throughout the first semester of online teaching, the coach will both serve as the "go-to" person for any questions related to online teaching and will actively review the new teacher's class and offer constructive feedback and recommendations. For more information about any aspect of this program, contact Instructional Development at the Cyber Campus (idev@academyart.edu).
In-Class Faculty Support and Teaching Consultations
» http://faculty.academyart.edu/support/
At your request, a Faculty Developer can “visit” your class, in a parallel way to how they visit onsite classes, to provide constructive, supportive and confidential feedback. In a consultation, we can brainstorm teaching issues (creating assignments, discussion facilitation, grading, etc.) and discuss your teaching goals.
